Novak Djokovic had to deal with an annoyance during his match against Alexander Zverev at the 2023 Cincinnati Masters, and it was fireworks.
Novak Djokovic was playing a really strong match against Alexander Zverev at the Cincinnati Masters, but when it was time to serve out the match, he ran into some problems. The Serbian was trying to serve out the match at 5-4 but allowed Zverev to hang around in the game, which ended in disaster when he was broken.
Zverev jumped out to a 30-0 lead in the next game on his serve, but then we saw a barrage from Djokovic, who went on to win the game and give himself another chance to close out the match. This time around, he was more focused, but he also had external factors he had to deal with.
The factors were fireworks that started to go off in the background while Djokovic was trying to serve out the match. It proved an annoyance as it was visible on his face but also in practice as he committed a double fault early in the game.
Still, the Serbian remained focused and would close out the match joking between points that New Year's came early. It's good that Djokovic saw the funny side in that because it's not the first time it happened to him.
Back in Adelaide, a match between himself and Shapovalov was stopped due to fireworks. There is not much you can really do about it, but it certainly became the theme of the match when Djokovic wrote about it on the camera after his match.
Fireworks. Yeah.
The win sends him to the final, where Carlos Alcaraz awaits. The Spaniard bested Hubert Hurkacz earlier that day. When it comes to the fireworks, check it out below.
