Tennis Fans Enraged Over US Open Draw Being Done Behind Closed Doors

by Sebastian Dahlman

Draws are a very interesting thing to many tennis fans around the world, but we've seen them lately conducted in questionable ways.

From bad live streams to no live streams at all, we've seen pretty much anything under the rainbow by now. The US Open is coming up, and tennis fans are excited to see how the draws will shape up. Many like to analyze it and see how far their favourites could go, and it's generally interesting to see what the paths look like.

Who will Carlos Alcaraz play, who might Novak Djokovic beat en route to a final, and what could happen on the WTA side of the event? The draw can answer all that in some capacity; however, tennis fans must wait to see it in full.

There won't be any live streaming as it will be held behind closed doors, a slap for many fans. They let their frustration be known on social media, reacting negatively towards the news. The tournament doesn't plan many changes in 2023, and that includes the way the draw is made, according to journalist James Gray.

"I am told the US Open draw next week (Thursday) will not be live-stream or televised, rather revealed on the tournament website as usual."

That wasn't well received by the fans, who were really disappointed by the fact that one of the four Grand Slam tournaments won't be streaming the draw, but instead, that it would only suddenly appear on their official website.

What is so hard about live streaming a draw honestly this should not be such an ordeal specially for a slam???

It’s giving match fixing idk.

Obviously the draw isn't rigged. But it is the kind of thing that fans love to be involved with and can easily be turned into a decent bit of content to "launch" the tournament.

While some of these reactions are overblown, it is rather disappointing that the ceremony won't be live-streamed. It shouldn't be that hard to stage for an event of this magnitude and fans clearly want to see it.

We've seen from other sports how popular these things can be, but tennis often has its ways. We're going to have to wait and see who plays who.
