Jannik Sinner played a really strong match to take down the world number one on home soil at the ATP Finals in Turin.
Ever since he started the year on a high note, Sinner dreamed of securing a spot in Turin. With some amazing performances spread throughout the year, Sinner did enough to find himself there, and he's not disappointing.
He bested Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round and now added another win at the event by beating Novak Djokovic. The win over the Serbian was particularly impressive and special due to the backing of the crowd, which he praised after the match.
Obviously the atmosphere is amazing, no? They helped me a lot. As I said the first day, it's a huge privilege for me to play here in Turin. I was expecting a really tough match. With the crowd and everything, they are trying to really help me. I'm obviously very happy how I tried to put everything in the right direction.
The match itself was great, and Sinner delivered one of his better performances of the year. He stayed calm, attacked when he needed to, and outplayed Djokovic in the crucial moments, which generally does not happen.
Putting together all circumstances, playing here in Turin against the No. 1 in the world, he won 24 Grand Slams, with such an atmosphere and everything, I think it's in the top, top, no? Obviously, as I said before, even if I would have lost today, the match was really good. Also for my mind was really important to go close this match so in my mind I know I can really trying to win against him also for the next matches.
The job is not done yet, as Sinner faces a tough challenge in Holger Rune next. He'll try to finish it off with a win.
