Jannik Sinner once again failed to defeat Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon, but he made a surprising admission after the match.
Sinner had a really solid event until the semi-final playing some solid tennis and taking advantage of a rather depleted section of the draw. He was quite confident ahead of the Djokovic rematch expecting a good battle and it was, however, it wasn't the desired outcome for the Italian.
Djokovic proved far more comfortable in the matchup, beating Sinner in straight sets to advance to his 5th consecutive Wimbledon final. The Italian spoke after the match and admitted that he felt closer to winning this year compared to last year, even if they played five sets the previous year.
Regardless of the score, I felt like I was more close this year than last year. That's what I felt. I felt like also the level was better. I think it's something positive from my point of view. As I said, I had chances in the beginning of the match. Then I had break points in the second set. Third set I had set points.

Sinner certainly had chances in this match, chances he left on the table. The Italian didn't do that last year but he also played Djokovic earlier in the event and if we take the Serbian's level through the event then Sinner faced a strong opponent today than last year. Perhaps in that sense, he's right.
He played a very good match. I obviously tried my best. I felt like I had some chances. I couldn't use them. It was tough. But I felt actually not, yeah, good on the court. It's for sure tough day, but I'm going to learn about this and hopefully I can improve.
