Holger Rune admitted after his loss to Carlos Alcaraz at the 2023 Wimbledon that he didn't feel that great after waking up.
Holger Rune didn't win a single match on grass on the ATP Tour before this year, so this Wimbledon run to the quarter-finals is undoubtedly a result he can be content with. The Danish player faced a long-time rival of his, Carlos Alcaraz, a player he wasn't scared to face, but the player he couldn't ultimately beat.
Rune is a very passionate tennis player who always leaves everything on the court and he did the same once more. Speaking after the match, Rune confirmed that he fought as hard as he could even if he didn't play his best match.
I did my best from all the circumstances. I fought till the end. He played a good match. I could have played better, I think. It's a part of it. Just have to move on. Yeah, this morning I didn't feel very good when I woke up. But, again, it's normal. You don't feel good every time you wake up.
Rune didn't go into too many details about what was wrong with him, but he admitted that the feeling prevailed through the day even though he tried his best to get rid of it. He didn't seem worried about it, but he noticed a dip in energy while playing the match.
But, yeah, I had to do everything I could to feel better for the match, but didn't have the same energy as I normally have when I play. Yeah, I tried. I tried everything I could.
Yeah, I mean, it's a part of it. Sometimes when you play in many tournaments, many matches, you start to feel it also. Actually in Paris last year, I also felt it. But there it went well. I just think it's a part of it. It's normal as humans.
