Holger Rune is one of the best players on clay right now and as such he will be among those that could possibly win Roland Garros.

The Danish rising star certainly proved himself once more on the big stage by beating Novak Djokovic at the 2023 Italian Open on Wednesday. It continued a run of solid results on clay which included the Monte Carlo final which he lost to Andrey Rublev.

Then he successfully defended his trophy in Munich while his Madrid Open experience ended early due to an inspired Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. He won 12 of 14 matches played on clay this year which is a winning percentage of 85 %. It's certainly one of the best marks on the ATP Tour and after a good run in Paris last year, there is no reason he couldn't do it again.

I still think, I mean, if Rafa is ready, Novak, I still see those two as the biggest favorites. Obviously, there is Alcaraz also. There's Sinner. There are a couple of other guys that also did well in the clay season here this year.

The draw will certainly be open more this year than in other years. Outside of Alcaraz and maybe Medvedev, no player is really playing on a high level consistently. Rune could certainly take on most of them in a clay match however he simply tries to focus on what he can control and doesn't bother himself with a lot of these narratives.

I see it maybe more open this year than the other years. It's interesting. It makes it more fun. We'll see. I'm just going to fight for every match I play.

The draw is in few days time and then we'll see how the field lines up and which players will be in the draw and which will be out of the event. It certainly promises to be a really exciting Roland Garros, possible the most exciting one in years.
