Milos Raonic produced another solid effort at the Canadian Open in Toronto beating Taro Daniel in two rather simple sets.
After taking out Frances Tiafoe in the previous round, it would have been rather surprising to see Raonic lose against a player that was ranked lower than the American. Fortunately for the native fans in attendance that didn't happen as the Canadian once again turned back the clock with a great performance.
Daniel is a pretty solid player capable of playing good tennis on multiple surfaces. Known as a clay courter for much of his career, the Japanese player found some success on hard courts in the recent year. He won his first match here to earn a chance to take on Raonic, but he was easily overmatched in this one.
From the start, it was clear that Raonic was having another good match as his serve was impeccable. It was only a matter of time before he was to find his groundstrokes and when he did, he cruised. The first set was very close as it saw Raonic break in the final game of the set. There wasn't any controversy like in the previous match so that was good as well.
The second set saw Raonic press early in order to finish the match off because it was pretty clear that he was unbreakable today. He managed to do that by jumping out to an early 2-0 lead after breaking Taro in his first service game of the second set and that was all Raonic needed.
From there it was your typical serve bot as Taro failed to create a single break point in the entire match. The final score was 6-4 6-3 for Raonic, who had 13 aces but 39 winners and only 9 unforced errors. His next opponent is Mackenzie McDonald, who defeated Andrey Rublev earlier today.
