Raonic 'Thankful' To Get Another Chance After 'Heartbreaking' Injury

Milos Raonic made a winning return at the 2023 Libema Open in 's-Hertogenbosch as he won his first match in two years.

Milos Raonic was once an extraordinarily good player with some impressive performances on grass. The Canadian hasn't played in two years though but about a month ago news came out about him wanting to attempt a comeback.

It was very exciting news for his fans as it came out of nowhere even if there were indications that he was looking for a way to play tennis again. The rumours were confirmed when his name appeared on the entry list for the Libema Open, and Monday, June 12th finally was the day.

Raonic appeared on the court and he played a fabulous match in his comeback to beat Miomir Kecmanovic. It was a gratifying experience for Raonic, to play in front of people again though he did feel the nerves as well.

It’s been a real pleasure to get to play in front of people. I didn’t get to hit a single tennis ball for a full year, now I get to play in front of a bunch of people. It was pretty nerve-wracking, I forgot that feeling. To be honest with you it might have been a little bit easier if I played in front of nobody today

The last time Raonic played was in July of 2021, quite a long time ago, and just being able to be back on the court was a really nice feeling for him. He struck an emotional tone after the match hinting that this comeback attempt is the final one.

It’s nice to be here after almost two years now and stepping away for a long time. It’s nice to be giving it one more try and hopefully going as far as I can. I’ve put in the best effort I could, and I want to see how far it takes me.

The Canadian further talked about being just grateful for the chance to play tennis again. He has no expectations, he's just simply taking the process day by day. Whatever happens happens but he's glad about being back.

[I’m taking it] day by day. It’s been a little heartbreaking a lot of the time when I couldn’t do anything and it’s nice for me to be here one more time. I get the chance to be on court, I get the chance to play, I get the chance to compete, to put in the work, and I get a chance to see how far it takes me, so I’m thankful.
