It's starting to look increasingly likely that
Nick Kyrgios won't restart his tennis career, as he announced yet another withdrawal.
Kyrgios enjoyed the best season of his professional tennis career in 2022. That season included his run to the final at the
Wimbledon Championships and also his maiden Grand Slam title in doubles at the Australian Open.
Since then, however, he has played only six singles matches, half of which he played visibly physically hampered, not able to deliver his best tennis. The Australian has recorded one win in those six matches.
But it seems that he won't be adding any more anytime soon, as the 30-year-old announced yet another withdrawal. He will miss the grass-court part of the season, which means skipping Wimbledon as well.
Kyrgios has competed at Wimbledon eight times, reaching one quarter-final and one final, winning 20 out of 28 matches that he played at SW19. It's his best Grand Slam tournament by some margin.
However, in an attempt to make it in time for the grass season, the 2022 Australian Open doubles champion experienced a setback. He announced it on his Instagram profile.
"Just wanted to give everyone a quick update - I've hit a small setback in my recovery and unfortunately won't make it back for grass season this year. I know how much you've all been looking forward to seeing me out there, and I'm genuinely sorry to disappoint."
"This is just a bump in the road, though, and I'm already working hard to get back stronger than ever. Thank you for all your continued support - it means everything to me. See you soon!"
Kyrgios will now continue working on his comeback in the upcoming weeks, but given the fact that the setback will keep him out of Wimbledon as well, it's likely a more significant issue.
When will Nick Kyrgios return to the tennis courts?
Kyrgios' obvious goal after withdrawing from Wimbledon will be the US Open. He reached the quarter-finals at the event in 2022, and he will want to repeat that result in the future.
However, given his struggles in recent years, it's hard to predict whether tennis fans will be able to see the Australian player on the tennis courts again in 2025.
If Kyrgios misses the remainder of this season, then his next target shifts to his home Grand Slam. He loves competing in Melbourne, and if he once chooses to retire, it's very likely to happen in front of the Australian fans, where he once won the doubles Grand Slam.
For now, Kyrgios' future is very uncertain, especially since he managed to play only six matches in the past three years.
