Former World Number Three Milos Raonic Targeting Remarkable Return

Milos Raonic, who previously rose to number three in the ATP rankings, could be in line to make a shock return to professional tennis for the 2023 grass season.

Raonic last played competitive tennis at the Atalanta Open in June 2021 and hasn't featured since, despite some suggestions that he would return during the 2022 campaign. However, an ongoing Achilles injury has caused ongoing problems for the 32-year-old and he has remained on the sidelines to recover.

The long period of absence has led to speculation about Raonic's future and some believed the Canadian player had retired. But, in the latest development, the former world number three appears to be targetting a sensational comeback for the 2023 grass season, according to journalist John Horn.

"Hearing a loose rumour that Milos Raonic MAY be planning to play tennis again this summer...on the grass."

The return would be a remarkable turn of events considering how Raonic went incognito for nearly two years. But, the comeback would fit in line with the schedule shared by the Canadian's coach, Mario Tudor, in an interview in December 2022 with Slovenian news outlet, Sport Klub.

"At the beginning of 2021 he already felt pain in his Achilles, couldn't run full speed. His combination of height and explosiveness makes him prone to injuries. He looks more like a handball player. After Atlanta he had an appointment, the doctor said Achilles is barely holding together. Rehab was as long as Achilles would've snapped. He made the first hit this February, even that was from a static position."

"My goal for him was to come back at US swing, but now we expect to compete in February or March. Surely there were black thoughts and contemplating retirement which is reasonable when you lose two seasons in a row. But Milos loves tennis a tad too much and I'm telling you that he's very motivated to come back on tour."
