'Not Very Organized Person': Nadal Rubbishes OCD Claims

by Evita Mueller

Rafael Nadal is very organized on a tennis court, and some think he suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD); however, he refuses talks about it.

We all know the rituals of Rafael Nadal and how careful he is about bottle placement and all sorts of other things on the tennis court. Some of that looks very funny when you see it, and you're used to it, but most tennis fans have gotten used to it by now.

We don't even notice, even though it's quite noticeable. In any case, some have suggested that the Spaniard suffers from some kind of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Nadal, who is coming back to tennis in January, dismissed those claims several times and once more recently.

When speaking during an Infosys event in Vienna, the 22-time Grand Slam champion actually admitted to being very disorganized off the courts, something many tennis fans would not expect given his behaviour on the court.

Outside the tennis court, I’m not a very organized person. I think I’m a hard worker but not very well organized life. I don’t have the best-organized [hotel] rooms but I’ve improved a lot over the last ten years.

It's a pretty funny admission to make, and it somehow doesn't fit. Many may not be able to picture Nadal in a really messy hotel room before his match, especially after watching him organize his bottles meticulously for many years.

The OCD misconception is not the only one about Nadal. He comes across as very serious on the court but is actually quite a humble and funny person outside of the tennis courts.

There are many stories confirming that. All in all, a tremendous player and an interesting character, it doesn't matte if it's on the tennis court, or outside from it, and that's why many are looking forward to his comeback.
