Norrie Hits Back At Djokovic 'Not Fair Play' Claims

by Sebastian Dahlman

Cameron Norrie and Novak Djokovic played recently in Rome and the Serbian claimed that the Brit's behaviour wasn't fair.

It was a very interesting match that Djokovic won however he wasn't particularly happy with the way Norrie conducted himself on the court. Norrie hit Djokovic with an overhead during the match earning a 'death stare' from the Serbian but after the match, Djokovic alluded to different things.

He didn't appreciate Norrie yelling 'come on' all the time and thought it went against what he would consider fair play. He further admitted his surprise because Norrie never showed that type of behaviour before when they played. The Brit told his side of the story recently after his win over Benoit Paire at Roland Garros.

“I apologised straight away and I didn’t see him. I looked up and hit the ball down low. I didn’t see him turn and concede the point. I wanted to win. I don’t have anything to say.”

When it comes to yelling and pumping himself up, Norrie explained that he didn't do anything strange. He's a competitor, he wants to win and he certainly didn't do it to Djokovic's face as the Serbian alluded to after the match.

I didn’t think I was in his face at all. I’m pretty vocal in some matches. If you’re doing it [fist bumping] right in front of someone’s face and looking at them and trying to taunt them, that’s not great. I was not doing that. I think it’s part of the game. I love seeing players compete and really get up for the matches and really wanting to win. I’m not trying to do it to distract the other guy or anything, I’m just really pumped to win every point I can. This is the only time that anyone’s had an issue with it.

Let's get another matchup between them so we can see it again.
