Monfils Reacts To 'Incredible Coincidence' Of Winning In Stockholm 12 Years After His First Win

Gael Monfils won his 12th career trophy exactly 12 years after winning the Stockholm Open which he reacted to on social media.

Monfils is a veteran on the ATP Tour who won't win many trophies at this stage of his career, which makes this Stockholm Open triumph so special for him. It's not the first time he won a trophy in the Swedish capital, as he won it 12 years ago by beating Jarkko Nieminen in the final.

This time around Monfils defeated Pavel Kotov in the final, and it was a complicated one. He nearly lost it which makes the win sweater but the Frenchman was mostly focused on the full circle moment of the whole situation. That's what he referenced on X after winning the trophy.

What an incredible coincidence! 12 years after winning the Stockholm tournament for the first time, I find myself once again on the top step of the podium . 12 years, 12 titles… it seems that the number 12 is my lucky number (team 15 forever)! But this title is all the more special because it’s the first one I’ve won as a father.

Having my wife, my mother, and my little girl by my side makes this victory even more beautiful. A huge thank you to my team, Mikael my coach, and Blaz my physio, for their unwavering support. Onward to more victories together!

Monfils didn't have the best season this year dealing with a lot of small nagging injuries that prevented him from playing regularly. When he did play the level was pretty solid albeit not good enough to really challenge the best of the best.

He was good enough in Stockholm as he got title number 12 in his career. The Paris Masters should be fun, as he's a crowd favourite.
