'I Was Possessed In 2019': Andreescu Looking To Find Same Mentality Again

Bianca Andreescu wants to return to her 2019 mentality, which saw her win a Grand Slam, among other successes.

Back in 2019, the Canadian was setting the tennis world on fire with her tremendous play. Still a teenager, Andreescu was emerging as the next big thing in tennis, and when she downed Serena Williams in the US Open final, her status was cemented.

She arrived, and in what a spectacular way! Unfortunately, as we know now, her career wouldn't have continued like that because the Canadian player has experienced a lot of difficulties since then.

Injuries are the number one culprit, but mental issues and struggles with form related to both of those problems also pulled her back from finding her best form.

She recently returned from her last injury absence and hopes to crack the code finally. She wants to get back to that 2019 mentality, as she revealed when talking to The Tennis Podcast.

"I feel like I was possessed in 2019. Like nothing could stop me. I did not care about anything but doing my best competing until my freaking limbs fell off, which they ended up falling off. I just kept going at it no matter what."

"And that's what I want to have again. Like I just want to and I know it's gonna come. I know it's gonna come. I want to have that fearlessness again. I really do, just like going after my shots, not caring as much, you know, if I miss a shot or not, because I know I'm doing the right thing, if you get what I'm saying."

Her comeback has been great so far. She's winning on grass, and she overcame even a proper test that came against Naomi Osaka, reaching the semi-finals of the 2024 Libema Open, which is a WTA 250 tournament on grass.
