Djokovic's Ability To Show Weakness But Still Win Inspires Alcaraz Ahead Of US Open

Carlos Alcaraz holds tremendous respect for Novak Djokovic after battling him a few times on the court.

Alcaraz clearly knew about Djokovic even before, but there is something to be said about really experiencing playing him. Things always seem more straightforward before you try, so the Spaniard found out how tough it is to play against Djokovic only when he really stood on the court against him.

He won some battles, but he also lost some, like the most recently at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati. That match was a pretty interesting one as Alcaraz was on top, seemingly cruising to the finish line, but he didn't. Djokovic mustered strength out of nowhere to completely turn around the match. Now, ahead of the 2023 US Open, the young Spaniard talked about it.

Well, obviously he's one of the greatest of all time from our sport. No doubts about it. Everything he does in the game is unbelievable.

Alcaraz on Djokovic

One thing that many always praise about Djokovic is his mental strength, and Alcaraz is the same. Just how he keeps battling even when he seems completely out of the match is incredible to watch. Alaraz thinks it's at the heart of his success.

Probably his mental rock. I going to say he never give up. I mean, tough, tough moment, probably he shows that he's down and he's going to lose, and he's always give the chance to himself to keep playing and be able to win.

Probably that's the most important thing that he has, and I try to take in my own game. Like in the final that we played, it was exactly the same I'm talking about. That's something that I learn and I'll try to do in my own game.

Perhaps we see another battle at the US Open and that one would be quite epic as well. It could only happen in the final and that's all you really need to know.
