Alexander Zverev has a chance to book the Chengdu Open final, but he'll need to overcome Grigor Dimitrov to do that.
Zverev is involved in a battle with several players to secure a spot at the ATP Finals in Turin. The German started the season badly but heated up as time went on to find himself in a pretty decent spot right now. His most recent win at the event pushed him to number 7 in the ATP live race.
A win over Dimitrov would certainly boost his chances for Turin as well, but it's an ongoing battle between a few players, so he'll need more good results to secure a spot there. The more important thing right now would be a chance to fight for another trophy.
Head-to-head:
So, how did he do against Dimitrov in the past? Actually, it's pretty good as he leads the H2H on the ATP Tour 6-1. Three of those matches happened this year, and Zverev won all three easily. There is just something in the matchup that bothers Dimitrov greatly.
Zverev just walls him nicely from the baseline and has the serve to create any advantage in rallies that allows him to finish them off nicely. His serve has been working really well this week so that's a very clear advantage that he'll have in most rallies.
Prediction:
So, how will this go? I imagine pretty painlessly for Zverev. Dimitrov has been putting forward some solid tennis, but all of that kind of stops when he faces Zverev. He has trouble with his serve, though he's hardly the only one.
He can't really create too much pressure in rallies because Zverev just sends so many balls back and it's just a bad matchup for him. I don't see him getting his second win against the German, not in Chengdu, at least.
Prediction: Alexander Zverev to win in two sets.
