Alcaraz Wins His Third Grand Slam Title After Beating Zverev In Roland Garros Final

Carlos Alcaraz won his third Grand Slam title after beating Alexander Zverev in a five-set final at the 2024 Roland Garros.

Alcaraz and Zverev have played some really impressive matches in the past, and this one was a solid battle as well. Zverev is a tricky matchup for the Spaniard, with his powerful serve and amazing court coverage, which troubled him greatly the last time they played on clay in Paris.

The German player won that match, and many wondered whether he could do it again. The opening set started with nerves for both as they traded breaks early. After that, Alcaraz stepped up his play and was able to break Zverev to go up in the first set.

The German didn't respond all too well, which is why Alcaraz was able to escape and win that opening set relatively easily, 6-3. Zverev missed too much, but he found his stroke in the second set.

To be fair, the 21-year-old greatly helped with his own erratic play, missing a lot of shots in that set. It was a fairly quick set for the German, who won it 6-2, as the match went into a pivotal third set.

Zverev applied some pressure to start, but the Spaniard handled it well. He then broke the fourth seed after a shockingly poor serving game from the German to go up 5-2.

However, Alcaraz then had probably 10 of his worst minutes of this final match. He played far too passively when he served for the set. He then lost rhythm completely, getting broken to lose the set 5-7.

It wasn't the best level from the Spaniard and he needed to do much better if he hoped to win his third Grand Slam trophy. He did just that, using Zverev's slow start to jump out to a 3-0 lead quickly in the fourth set.

He then added another break to make it 4-0, but Zverev pulled it back immediately, so it was 4-1. Alcaraz then took a medical timeout for a leg issue but got a lucky break, as Zverev thew away yet another game to make it 5-1, after which Alcaraz closed it out, winning the fourth set 6-1.

The final set didn't start well for Zverev, who was completely out of sync, losing his serve in a game in which he committed four incredible unforced errors. Those were easy points, and he just missed them.

Alcaraz remained poised from there, finishing off an amazing comeback to win his third Grand Slam trophy and first at the Roland Garros, winning the match 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.
