Carlos Alcaraz played his second match on Centre Court at Wimbledon and earned his first win on the biggest court at SW19.
As of yesterday, Novak Djokovic is unbeaten on the Centre Court of Wimbledon since 2013. The Serbian went a full decade without losing a single match though he came close a couple of times. The closest was probably the iconic final against Roger Federer when he saved match points.
Contrary to Djokovic, fellow ATP colleague, Carlos Alcaraz, just got his first win on the iconic court. It was only his second match on it and after his win over Alexandre Muller, the Spaniard admitted that there were some nerves present. Ultimately he overcame all of that to win the match in three sets.
Well, a little bit at the beginning. But the experience that I had last year help me a lot to manage the nerves better than the last year. Of course, the round is different. Playing the fourth round against Sinner in second round. It was different. This time I enjoying. I enjoyed a lot.
His previous Centre Court experience was against Jannik Sinner last year as the Italian proved better. Things went a lot better this time around as he was able to get his first win and obviously, it's a special thing for him.
Of course, is really special to have my first win on Centre Court here in Wimbledon. A really beautiful court. Of course, I really wanted to have my first one. I feel that I belong in that court. I feel like I'm ready to play more matches, to play more great matches on that court.
The win over Muller wasn't a thrashing as the 1st round win over Chardy was. Muller was able to keep the match close and competitive though Alcaraz didn't play as well as in the 1st round. Some of that had to do with him adjusting to the bigger court which plays a bit differently. According to Alcaraz, it plays a bit faster which needed some time getting used to.
I felt different from Centre Court than the Court 1. I felt the Centre Court is faster for me than the Court 1. It was different for me. At the beginning the match was long, let's say, and I adjust very well until the end. It was different at the beginning.
