The first ATP 500 tournament of 2024 is the Rotterdam Open, and the draw for the event was recently released.
A host of top players are playing in the tournament, which will run from February 11th to 18th, and even the absence of defending champion Daniil Medvedev has not reduced the riches of star power in the draw.
The top seed at this year's Rotterdam Open is Jannik Sinner, who will begin his campaign against Botic van de Zandschulp. Incidentally, Sinner defeated the Dutchman in the first round of the Australian Open and won the title. Could it be a case of deja vu?
The Italian has a formidable list of challengers in the top half. One of them is Gael Monfils, who is a two-time champion here. The Frenchman will play either a qualifier or a special exception entrant. If he navigates that opener, then he'll most likely face the new Australian Open champion next.
There is a rematch of the Montpellier final from a few weeks ago as Alexander Bublik faces Borna Coric, with the winner projected to meet Sinner in the quarterfinal. But Milos Raonic could derail those plans, especially if he is injury-free and will draw one of Bublik or Coric in the second round if he gets there.
Hubert Hurakcz has a tough opening match against Czech rising star Jiri Lehecka, while Ugo Humbert plays Emil Ruusuvuori. This section of the draw could bring Hurkacz and Humbert into a quarterfinal match if seedings hold.
In the bottom half, Grigor Dimitrov begins his campaign against big-hitting Lorenzo Sonego, with the winner potentially facing Fabian Marozsan in the second round. Holger Rune, for his part, drew Roman Safiullin for the second time this season.
Former champion Andrey Rublev occupies the bottom half, too, beginning his adventure against either a qualifier or a special exempt entrant, with Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime looming large in the second round.
There is a return to action for Croatian teenager Dino Prizmic, who pushed Novak Djokovic very close at the Australian Open. Prizmic will play a qualifier/special exemption entrant.
