The 2023 US Open will once again offer record prize money, this time increasing even further for the last major of the season.
Running from August 28th to September 10th, the 2023 US Open should once again be a spectacle as the final Grand Slam of the season, and in 2023, it will offer $65 million in prize money to all players, along with 2,000 points to singles champions.
This year is also the 50th edition of the US Open when the event offers equal prize money, a journey that began in 1973. In the earlier years, both the men's and women's singles champions walked away with $25,000 each, competing for total purses of $100,000.
It was a revolutionary move at the time, as the US Open became the first Grand Slam to offer equal prize money to men and women. Now, 50 years later, champions of the singles main draws walk away with an impressive $3 million. This is a 15% increase from last year's $2.6 million, when Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek won the event.
Along with the defending champions, many other players will compete for their share of prize money, but also points. The men's entry list for the 2023 US Open includes the likes of Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Holger Rune.
On the other hand, players competing in the women's tournament include Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, home players Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff, but also Caroline Wozniacki, who recently made a sensational return to tennis.
For losing in the first round of the tournament, players will receive $81,500 and 10 ranking points for their respective rankings.
With each round, the prize money rewarded to men and women at the 2023 US Open stays the same. However, points are different as the ATP and WTA have different structures for awarding points.
Men will receive 45 points for making it to the second round, while women will receive 70 points, and both will receive $123,000 in prize money for their efforts.
For the third-round appearance, players will get 90 ATP points, or 130 WTA points, and $191,000, while those that make it to the fourth round will get 180 ATP points, or 240 WTA points, and $284,000.
All quarterfinalists will earn nearly half a million, with a $455,000 paycheck, and men will also get 360 points, while women will get 430 points. The semifinalists at the 2023 US Open will get 720 ATP points, or 780 WTA points, and $775,000.
Naturally, the biggest reward comes in the final of the event. While the champions will both get $3,000,000 and 2,000 points, the finalists will earn $1,500,000 and 1,200 ATP points, or 1,300 WTA points.
