Novak Djokovic is a natural on the tennis court, but how will he fare when he has to tee it up with other sports pros in the 2023 Ryder Cup celebrity match?
Djokovic will represent Team Monty, in tribute to the golfing great Colin Montgomerie, who will face off against another team in the Ryder Cup celebrity all-star match. The celebrity match will take place on Wednesday, 27 September at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club ahead of the Ryder Cup competition, which is contested between Team Europe and Team USA.
However, Djokovic will have plenty of time to prepare for his round once his run at the 2023 US Open concludes. The Serbian player has progressed to the semi-finals of the competition and will face US home player Ben Shelton in the final four as he aims to become the most decorated player ever in tennis with a 24th Grand Slam title.
Despite his commitment to professional tennis, which has yielded a record 23 men's Grand Slam titles across a career spanning almost two decades, Djokovic is known to enjoy other sports. Moreover, the 36-year-old has previously mentioned his desire to play a round of leisurely golf against fellow tennis great Rafael Nadal once the pair retire from ATP tennis.
At the Ryder Cup celebrity match, Djokovic will be joined by a host of other famous sports stars who have reached the pinnacle in their respective fields. Formula 1 racer Carlos Sainz will also compete, while former football stars Gareth Bale and Andriy Shevchenko will also participate in the one-day event.
"I can't wait to tee it up in Rome and experience the incredible atmosphere of a Ryder Cup."
"The Ryder Cup is a special event, having experienced the incredible atmosphere at Europe's win in 2010 [at Wales' Celtic Manor]. I can't wait to experience some of that magic again in Rome in a few weeks' time."
