After Ashleigh Barty's retirement, Iga Swiatek became women's world number 1, and it looks like she will keep the top spot on the WTA Tour for some time.
Iga Swiatek has been showing her qualities on the WTA Tour for quite some time already, but it was only last week when she became world number 1 after her biggest competitor for the spot retired. Now, the Polish youngster will need to fight off the tough competition that would like to take the spot away from her.
In the newest edition of the WTA Rankings, published on April 11th, 2022, second behind Swiatek is Barbora Krejcikova, who has a tiny 90-point lead ahead of Paula Badosa.
Both are closely followed by Aryna Sabalenka, who has accumulated 4711 points and would certainly like to challenge both of them for the world no. 2 spot. Maria Sakkari is fourth, only six points behind the Belarusian, with her point total being 4705.
Anett Kontaveit and Karolina Pliskova are also in the fight for the world no. 2 spot, with the Estonian having 4511 points, while the former world no. 1 from the Czech Republic currently has 4252 points.
After her triumph in Charleston, Belinda Bencic moved closer to the Top 10, and she's already 13th. The British young star, Emma Raducanu, is only two places away from reaching the Top 10, as she's currently ranked 12th.
Another former world no. 1, Simona Halep, has recently appointed a new coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, and the French coach will try to assist her in an attempt to improve her ranking from her current 20th place.
