Belinda Bencic proved that she was the best-prepared player at the 2022 Charleston Open when she defeated Ons Jabeur in the final.

Both players faced a lot of high-quality opponents on their way to the final of the WTA 500 tournament in Charleston, South Carolina, in the United States. However, the Tunisian player had one less match to play thanks to being seeded fourth at the event.

The Swiss player spent a bit more time on the court when she needed to defeat Xiyu Wang, Linda Fruhvirtova, Madison Keys, Paula Badosa, and Ekaterina Alexandrova to reach the final, dropping two sets along the way.

On the other hand, Jabeur dropped only one set in her semifinal match against Amanda Anisimova, while cruising in two sets against home wild card Emma Navarro, Irina-Camelia Begu, and Anhelina Kalinina.

Bencic, who entered the match with one win against Jabeur from the Madrid Open last year, started the match swiftly as she took her opponent's serve twice, while keeping a really high quality on her serve. After only 32 minutes of play, she saw herself up 6-1.

In the second set, Jabeur was facing a total of three breakpoints at 4-4 and 5-5. Converting those would see the Swiss player serving for the match, however, the opposite was true as Jabeur converted her second breakpoint in the 12th game to level the score of the match, winning the second set 7-5.

Both players had their serve broken at the beginning of the third set, but eventually, it was Bencic who managed to get one more break to win the match.

The tenth seed from Switzerland won the final match 6-1, 5-7, 6-4 and lifted her first trophy of the 2022 season, while also adding very important 470 to her points total in the WTA Rankings.
