Serena Williams played her last match at the 2021 Wimbledon, and the All England Club might be the place where she will also return to action in 2022.

In 2017, Serena Williams won her 23rd Grand Slam title, and it looked like nothing would stop her from equalling and eventually breaking Margaret Court's record of 24 Grand Slam titles. However, she missed the following 4 Grand Slams and lost the finals of 2018 and 2019 Wimbledon and US Open, and five years later, she is still one Grand Slam title away from equalling the record.

Many would like to see the 40-year-old American winning her 24th Grand Slam and equalling the record, but every day, the dream is becoming less and less likely to happen. With the retirement of dominant Ashleigh Barty, the door might have opened for Serena Williams, however, there are many more players who will attempt to stop her from writing history books.

That includes current world number 1, Iga Swiatek, former world number 1, Naomi Osaka, or any other player from an equal women's field such as Paula Badosa, Aryna Sabalenka, Maria Sakkari, or young guns Emma Raducanu, who has sensationally won the 2021 US Open, and Coco Gauff.

With almost one year away from the courts, now it looks like Serena Williams will return at the 2022 Wimbledon. She hinted at this in her stories from backstage at the Bitcoin Conference, where she was joking with Aaron Rodgers when she said:

"We've been talking about my comeback, and he's been hyping me up and getting me ready for Wimbledon, so can't wait."

After Serena threw in a little "exciting", Rodgers replied: "She's back" and so it looks like the most successful woman in tennis will return at Wimbledon in an attempt to equal the record of 24 Grand Slam titles.
