The 2024 Bad Homburg Open is one of two WTA grass-court tournaments held in Germany and will run from June 23rd to 29th.
First founded in 2020 as a 250-level event, the Bad Homburg Open's inaugural edition took place 12 months later because of the coronavirus pandemic. Angelique Kerber won the first staging in 2021, beating Katerina Siniakova in the final.
The curly-haired Czech overcame the final hurdle when she defeated Lucia Bronzetti to clinch the title last year. Siniakova will return to defend her crown in a packed field for the 2024 tournament, which has been upgraded to a 500 category.
The entry list has been revealed and features a plethora of established WTA players, including Marketa Vondrousova and Maria Sakkari, who are the two top-10 players in the field.
Three former World No. 1s will also play: the experienced trio of Kerber, Victoria Azarenka, and Caroline Wozniacki. Some of the players who will look to get back to winning ways after early exits at Roland Garros include Beatriz Haddad Maia, Veronika Kudermetova, and Sara Sorribes Tormo.
Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva will make her tournament debut. She was 6-1 on grass last year, reaching the fourth round of Wimbledon as a qualifier. But she is not the only talented young player on the entry list.
Diana Shanider and Emma Navarro have enjoyed breakout seasons in 2024, each winning at least one WTA title, while Linda Noskova will also look to make some noise.
One of the most experienced players on the field will be Tatjana Maria, who will be playing on home soil. Spain's Paula Badosa also features as a wild card in what will be her first participation in Bad Homburg.
