The second edition of the ATX Open in Austin is expected to be an open field, meaning that there are no clear-cut favorites.
The draw for this WTA 250 tournament was recently revealed. The event was going to be headlined by two former Grand Slam champions, but Victoria Azarenka will not be playing in Austin. It looks like she hasn't recovered from the abdominal injury she picked up in Dubai.
That means 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens is the second seed and features in the bottom half of the draw. The experienced American will be favored to beat a qualifier in her opener, but things could get a little bit bumpy in the second round.
If Stephens reaches the round of 16, she will face one of Julia Riera or the Latvian veteran Anastasija Sevastova, who rejoined the tour in 2024 after an indefinite break. Stephens could meet seventh seed and countrywoman Peyton Stearns in the quarterfinal.
However, Stearns must beat the evergreen Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the first round. A couple more Americans are also in the bottom half. Taylor Townsend will play Fernanda Contreras, while Alycia Parks will face Emiliana Arango.
The top seed, Anhelina Kalinina, leads the top half of the draw. She faces a qualifier in the first round. Camila Osorio and Alize Cornet lock horns in the first round, with the winner potentially meeting Kalinina.
France's Diane Parry has been in good form of late and will fancy her chances of making it to the second round, at the very least, in Austin. Parry will take on a qualifier in her opener.
The third seed is former Australian Open finalist Danielle Collins. The 30-year-old intends to hang up her racket this season in order to start a family. She plays qualifier, to begin with, and could meet compatriot Katie Voylnets in the second round.
