The 10th edition of the Hong Kong Open will run from October 9th to 15th on the outdoor hard courts of Victoria Park - a multisport public park in the Causeway Bay area.
For the first time since 2018, this WTA 250 event will return to the calendar. The entry list for this year's tournament was released. Two former Grand Slam singles champions have been confirmed among those in the front line in the 32-woman field.
The fans in Hong Kong will welcome Victoria Azarenka and Sloane Stephens, two premier hard-court performers and among the most decorated tennis players of the past decade. They'll be joined by Brazil's No. 1 player Beatriz Haddad Maia.
Dayana Yastremska will not return to defend her crown which she won five years ago, but former champion Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will make the trip to Hong Kong. Some of the WTA's fastest-rising stars including Peyton Stearns, Linda Noskova, and Xinyu Wang will be keen to showcase their blossoming talent.
The champion of the 2023 Hong Kong Open will not only take home the silver as a souvenir but will also earn 280 WTA ranking points. In addition to the points, the winner will bank a cool $34,228, a significant chunk of the $259,303 total prize money at the tournament.
The vanquished finalist's efforts will be well recognized. Aside from taking the runner-up trophy and posing in front of the photographers, she will earn a priceless 180 ranking points and a cash prize of $20,226.
Reaching the last four stage of a Tour-level tournament is no mean task, and that's the reason why the losing semifinalists will receive 110 ranking points, aiding them inch closer to the upper tiers of the WTA rankings. Their efforts will also be compensated in monetary terms with a cash prize of $11,275 each.
Points and Prize money allocation begin right from the qualifying rounds. So even those who exited the event in the first round are rewarded for their participation. They receive 1 ranking point, which can be crucial in closely contested ranking battles.
