The 2025
Stockholm Open will be held from October 13th to 19th, and several superb players have committed to the
ATP 250 indoor hard court tournament.
First played in 1969, the Stockholm Open is one of the ATP's oldest events. The Swedish fans attend in high numbers each year to justify its continued place on the professional circuit over five decades later.
Roger Federer, Boris Becker, and John McEnroe are among the former winners in Stockholm. Federer unexpectedly played in 2010, wowing the fans before playing a more reduced schedule in subsequent years.
Tommy Paul is the defending champion. He defeated
Grigor Dimitrov in the final with an excellent performance, one of the highlights from his superb 2024 season that almost led to him qualifying for the 2024 ATP Finals.
Unsurprisingly, Paul will defend his title after committing to this year's Stockholm Open. The American, who recently got engaged to his long-time partner, has not had as much success in 2025, but remains an excellent indoor hard-court player.
Although Dimitrov is also on the
entry list, the Bulgarian's participation cannot be guaranteed at this stage. He has been sidelined since retiring from his 2025 Wimbledon quarterfinal against Jannik Sinner with a torn chest muscle.
Dimitrov was two sets up and completely outplaying Sinner until that moment occurred, making it arguably the saddest moment of the season. It also made him the first man to retire from five consecutive Grand Slams.
Casper Ruud has a chance to breathe life into his mixed year at the Stockholm Open. The likeable Norwegian's Grand Slam return of two second-round defeats at the Australian Open and the French Open, and not playing Wimbledon due to injury, is a dismal return by his high standards.
However, Ruud also secured his most significant title at the 2025 Madrid Open, defeating Jack Draper in the final. That was and currently remains the 26-year-old's sole Masters 1000 crown.
Matteo Berrettini returned to action at the 2025 Hangzhou Open after enduring more injury struggles this season. The 2021 Wimbledon runner-up had only played one event since May's 2025 Italian Open because of a right oblique injury.
Lucky loser Dalibor Svrcina comfortably overcame Berrettini 6-3, 6-3 in Hangzhou. The Italian undoubtedly hopes to play better in Stockholm, but he has struggled on indoor hard courts during his career, failing to reach a final in those conditions.
Denis Shapovalov possesses the aggressive style that could thrive on the Swedish indoor courts. He proved that by winning the 2024 Belgrade Open, a tournament that has been moved to Athens after
Novak Djokovic recently moved there.
It will also be interesting to observe 2014 US Open champion
Marin Cilic's progress in Stockholm. The 36-year-old failed to defend
his Hangzhou Open title after losing in the opening round and must perform much better if he wants to achieve success before the end of 2025.
Ugo Humbert,
Tallon Griekspoor,
Cameron Norrie, and
Lorenzo Sonego are among the other players on the Stockholm Open entry list.
