The next
ATP Masters 1000 tournament will be the 2025
Shanghai Masters, scheduled from October 1st to 12th. Players are now aware of the
prize money and ranking points for the tournament.
Jannik Sinner is the defending champion. He defeated
Novak Djokovic in the final, continuing his dominant recent record against the 24-time Grand Slam winner to secure one of many titles during his superb 2024 season.
Sinner has a massive number of points to defend from last year's Shanghai Masters and ATP Finals. That complicates his hopes of regaining the No. 1 ranking,
which he lost to Carlos Alcaraz after the 2025 US Open.
Alcaraz, Sinner, and Djokovic are all on the 2025 iteration's entry list. Although all players' participation is important, they have been the three best ATP players for a few years, making their appearances particularly pivotal.
As always, the 2025 Shanghai Masters offers some of the most lucrative prize money of any men's tournament. The overall prize money pot is an eye-watering $9,193,540, distributed across the different rounds.
The 2025 Shanghai Masters champion will receive $1,124,380. That huge sum makes it one of the few ATP tournaments outside the four Grand Slams to reward the winner with a seven-figure sum.
While the prize money each year usually differs slightly, the ranking points remain the same. 1,000 points will be given to the winner, and Sinner knows he is guaranteed to drop many points if he does not defend those he earned last year.
The runner-up in Shanghai will be handed 650 points and $597,890. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray are among the players who have lost in the final since the tournament's inception in 2009.
For those who reach the semifinal, $332,160 and 400 points are on the table. That will be a more than decent consolation prize for the players who get that far but cannot advance to the final.
Carlos Alcaraz's quarterfinal defeat to Tomas Machac was the most surprising result of last year's Shanghai Masters. The players who replicate how far Alcaraz went will earn $189,075 and 200 ranking points.
Those who fall in the round of 16 are also guaranteed to receive a six-figure sum of $103,225 and 100 ranking points. Three victories are required for non-seeded players to reach that stage of the tournament.
The rewards decline further but still remain decent for those who fall in the round of 32. They will leave China's most significant men's tournament with $60,400 and 50 ranking points for being among the 32 best players.
$35,260 and 30 points are set to be handed to the men eliminated in the second round. Unlike ATP 500 and 250 tournaments, first-round losers receive 10 points at 1000-level events. In Shanghai, they will also get $23,760.
The Shanghai Masters is the penultimate Masters 1000 event of 2025, and the last with a 96-player draw. It could be pivotal in deciding which players qualify for the year-end 2025 ATP Finals. Jack Draper's hopes of qualifying are over
because of an injury until the end of the season.
