The 2025 Berlin Open has an absolutely incredible draw for a WTA 500 tournament, and the women in it will fight for the prize money and ranking points on offer this week.
Last year's final in Berlin was one of the best matches of 2025. Jessica Pegula dramatically saved five championship points before eventually overcoming Anna Kalinskaya in a deciding set tiebreak.
The 2024 lineup at the tournament was impressive, but this year's is even better. Iga Swiatek is the only Top 10 player not in the Berlin Open draw as WTA stars attempt to get themselves sharp for the 2025 Wimbledon Championships.
Coco Gauff will try to reach her first professional grass court final in Berlin. She was a semifinalist last year before losing to Pegula. Hopefully, the American got some rest after her incredible run to the Roland Garros final.
By contrast, Aryna Sabalenka hopes to bounce back from her devastating loss in the Roland Garros final to Gauff. The world No. 1 was defeated in a Grand Slam final after winning the first set by the American for the second time.
Sabalenka caused controversy after being defeated by Gauff, claiming the result was not down to her opponent's good play and that Iga Swiatek would have overcome the 21-year-old if she had played in the same match.
Qinwen Zheng, Mirra Andreeva, Jessica Pegula, Paula Badosa, and Elena Rybakina are other players in the Berlin Open draw. The women can avail themselves of significant prize money and ranking points at the tournament.
The 2025 Berlin Open champion will earn €142,610 and 500 ranking points. Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova was the 2023 champion in the German capital and will face last week's 2025 Queen's Club Championships winner Tatjana Maria in the opening round.
Whoever loses this year's Berlin Open final will collect €87,825 and 330 ranking points. Belinda Bencic and Donna Vekic are the other players, along with Kalinskaya, who have finished as the runner-up since the tournament moved from clay to grass in 2021.
The rewards for falling in the semifinal remain pretty solid. €51,305 and 195 points are guaranteed for the players who make it to the stage, which would be enough for many players in the draw to climb the WTA rankings.
Sabalenka, Rybakina, Ons Jabeur, and Katerina Siniakova were last year's defeated quarterfinalists. Replicating that achievement will earn four of the players in the draw €24,950 and 108 ranking points.
The Top four seeds receive byes into the round of 16. Sabalenka, Gauff, Pegula, and Jasmine Paolini automatically enter the second round, which guarantees them €13,651 and 60 ranking points.
One ranking point is given to players who lose in the opening round of WTA 500 tournaments like the Berlin Open, which some find bizarre. €9,829 will also be added to the bank accounts of those players.
The incredible draw means the Berlin Open could be the best WTA 500 event of 2025. Hopefully, it will live up to expectations, and fans will be treated to outstanding tennis.
