The men on the 2025 Bastad Open entry list will compete at the Swedish tournament for decent financial rewards and ranking points.
Several great players have won the event since it was first played in 1948. The most high-profile is 14-time Roland Garros champion Rafael Nadal, who beat Tomas Berdych in the final as a 19-year-old.
In truth, this year's entry list at the Bastad Open, scheduled for July 14th to 20th, does not contain as many high-profile players as many previous iterations. During that week, the tournament faces competition from the Gstaad Open and the Los Cabos Open.
Nonetheless, some very good players have committed to the ATP 250 event in Sweden for 2025, including Grigor Dimitrov, who has one of the best games to watch when he is firing on all cylinders.
Clay has not been Dimitrov's best surface throughout his lengthy and successful career, but the 2017 ATP Finals winner can play great tennis anywhere. Hopefully, he is fit after retiring at a fourth consecutive Grand Slam at Roland Garros a few weeks ago.
Hubert Hurkacz and Botic van de Zandschulp, who defeated Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal in 2024, are among the other players who will battle for the 2025 Bastad Open title, prize money, and ranking points.
This year's champion in Bastad will collect €90,675 and 250 ranking points. Nuno Borges won last year's title by beating Rafael Nadal, who thrilled the Swedish fans by playing at the tournament.
In the latter half of his career, appearances at ATP 250 events were very rare for Nadal. However, the legendary 22-time Grand Slam champion competed at the Bastad Open 19 years after he won the title to get match practice ahead of the 2024 Olympics.
The 2025 runner-up will earn €52,890 and 165 ranking points. Spanish Davis Cup captain David Ferrer, recently retired French tennis legend Richard Gasquet, and the currently injured Casper Ruud have all been the runner-up in Bastad.
As always, two men will lose in the semifinal. Those who suffer that fate are set to receive 100 ranking points and €31,090 points for that result. That is more points than players get for reaching the second round of a Grand Slam.
Roberto Carballes Baena, Timofey Skatov, Mariano Navone, and Thiago Monteiro were the losing quarterfinalists in 2024. Carballes Baena is a good clay-court player at his best, and must have been very disappointed to be beaten by Thiago Tirante.
Progressing to the quarterfinal without going any further would be enough to earn players €18,015 and 50 ranking points. The difference in points and money between the quarterfinals and semifinals can be significant for lower-ranked players.
Although the gap between the round of 16 and the quarterfinal is less, it is also not insignificant. The men who cannot win their round of 16 contests will walk away from the Swedish tournament with €10,460 and 25 points.
€6,390 is the financial reward for being in the main draw, but no ranking points are given to those who do not win a match.
