Carlos Alcaraz is a beast on the tennis courts, but away from the courts, he still listens to his parents.
Most of the tennis fans know Alcaraz only as a tennis player. However, to his closest ones, he is always the same Carlos that he was also a decade ago.
That, of course, applies mostly to his parents. Alcaraz has a very good relationship with his parents, and despite now being a Grand Slam champion and the ATP World No. 1 player, he still listens to them like every child.
After winning the US Open, Alcaraz talked to GQ, and in the interview, he admitted that when he's at home with his parents, he's still told what he should do.
"When we’re at home, my parents tell me what I have to do. You know––‘Do this, do that,’ just normal parent-kid stuff. I’m normal. I’m a normal guy."
Alcaraz might inspire some kids to pick up a tennis racket. But only a few years ago, he was the one who was inspired by seeing the Big Three compete.
Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer all inspired Alcaraz to become as good as he is today. The 19-year-old doesn't shy away from admitting that he tries to be like them.
"When you’re a kid, you always want to be like someone, you know? It was incredible for me to grow up watching [the Big 3’s] matches. Just the best guys in the world, dominating the ATP, winning for so many years. That helped me to be like them––well, to try to be like them."
While the teenager beat both Nadal and Djokovic in his career, he never faced Federer, and unfortunately, he won't get the chance to do that. The Swiss Maestro retired from the sport at the 2022 Laver Cup in London.
