After a dramatic match against Hubert Hurkacz in the first round of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina crashed out of the tournament in an unusual way.
First, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina chose a very weird way to end his match against the seventh-seeded Hurkacz in the first round when he decided to play a tweener on a match point.
That went terribly wrong as he soon found himself down a break in the fifth set after being up by two sets and serving for a match while leading 40-0.
Yet, the Spaniard managed to win the match in five sets. In the second round, he had a chance to advance into the third round as he faced Jiri Vesely from the Czech Republic.
After losing the first set 3-6, everything went well for Davidovich Fokina in the next two, and he also had three break points in the fourth to seal the match.
However, he couldn't use them and got broken later in the set. He lost the fourth set 3-6. In the fifth set, the Spaniard was down a break at one point but recovered, so the match reached the super tie-break in the fifth set.
Having experience with this type of finish from his match against Hurkacz, the Spanish player hoped to do well against the Czech player as well. Yet, he found himself 7-8 down. However, He was the player about to serve, so he still wasn't as close to losing as it might have seemed.
After making an unforced error after the first of his two serves, Davidovich Fokina faced two match points, but he didn't get to serve again as he got a point penalty for ball abuse.
He was angry that he lost the point, and the match ended in a very unusual style. The Spaniard then discussed the situation with the umpire and also remained in his chair for quite a long time after the match ended.
