Novak Djokovic's 7-year-old son Stefan has spoken about who he reckons to be the best player in world tennis, with hotshot Carlos Alcaraz now overtaking Rafael Nadal, according to father Novak.
Despite being brought up by one of the greatest players ever to pick up a racket, the youngster has, funnily enough, never fancied his father as the world's best, rather long-time nemesis Nadal.
However, things have changed in the Djokovic household, with Stefan keeping up with the times and now liking the look of young gun Alcaraz. Unfortunately, the 7-year-old has never been able to watch his new favorite go up against his dad.
It is only a matter of time before this changes, though, with the young Spaniard recently admitting that he cannot wait to play the great for the first time in his career.
There is the possibility that fans could be treated to the spectacle in Madrid, which would undoubtedly delight fans such as young Stefan, as Djokovic explained.
"In the last month, for my son, Nadal is no longer number one, Alcaraz is his favourite now. He really likes both. He imitates the way they play, Nadal's forehand, and the emotion, it's beautiful."
Expanding on Alcaraz, with whom he trained in the Spanish capital at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament, Djokovic went on to praise the youngster's mentality and character. The Serb also appeared very complimentary of everything that he has done for someone of such a young age.
"Carlos (Alcaraz) is a great person, I really like him, I have so much respect for him. Today was the first time I have practised with him, even though I've seen him on the tour for the past year and his journey has been incredible."
"What he has done for the sport is great, not just for Spain, but it's great to have someone so young doing so well. He's a big star already. He's got the whole package."
Djokovic will kick off his Madrid Open campaign against Gael Monfils. Having never lost against the Frenchman, he will be hoping to see off the fan favourite before setting his sights on the latter stages of the tournament.
