Carlos Alcaraz played only 8 matches on grass on the ATP Tour and he finds the surface the toughest one to play for him which is expected.
The grass is a very specific surface in the sense that a good chunk of players doesn't really play that well on it. It's pretty rare in the calendar so they don't get that much time to get used to it and it's a surface where matches are needed to play well.
Alcaraz has only played 8 matches so far (4 wins 4 losses) but he's hoping to add a bit more at the 2023 Cinch Championships at the Queen's Club. He was supposed to play there last year but pulled out so this will be the first time he's at the famous tennis club.
I arrived in London Saturday morning and I had my first practice on grass yesterday. I was not able to practise too much at home as we have no grass courts. I need to adapt my movement and shots on the grass, but I am really happy with the practice I have had here.
Wimbledon is a target for Alcaraz someday but it's unlikely he'll be ready to win the event this year. The Spaniard needs more time on it as he struggles with several things on it, movement in particular. It's one of his strengths in general but having spent very little time on will make it hard for you to play well on it. The match in Queen's will be his first since the Roland Garros loss.
The most difficult part is to move well on grass. You need to be more careful than other surfaces, so for me to move on grass is the most difficult. There are a lot of players who slice on grass. I am not one of them, so I have to think about the movement.
I have to be focused on every movement and shot. For me it is more tiring when you are moving on grass. It is totally different, so you have to be really specific.
