Daniil Medvedev crashed out of the Shanghai Masters early, but he refused to blame the slower conditions for the loss.

After his first match in Shanghai, Medvedev complained about how the court played slow compared to the last time the event was held. If you know Medvedev, then you know how much he loves to play on fast courts, as he's frequently voiced his displeasure with slow courts.

The match against Sebastian Korda is one that Medvedev could have easily won. He had a set point and played it well but simply couldn't win that point as Korda was majestic. It's one of the best rallies we've seen in a very long time, and it proved crucial for that opening set.

Medvedev admitted after the match that the first set was crucial as it completely flipped the momentum into Korda's favour. He didn't, however, want to blame the court even though it was not to his liking.

Yeah, I mean, it's not because of the court, but I do think the court maybe favors him a little bit. Was kind of fast enough for him to make winners, but slow enough to have time to kind of set up his shot. So I think, yeah, for him was good.

The first match Medvedev played was enough for him to get used to it, and he believes that his level is better today than yesterday. It was simply not good enough to overcome a really spirited effort from Korda who was really good.

Me, playing yesterday, I got used to it, so I was also playing better today than yesterday. Yeah, kind of one court always going to favor one player more than the other, and don't think I lost kind of because of it
