Bye Nike: Dimitrov Changes Clothing Sponsor After More Than 15 Years

Grigor Dimitrov made a winning start at Roland Garros and he has a new sponsor, one tied to the event and France.

For the majority of his career, Grigor Dimitrov played in Nike kits but the Bulgarian tennis player has now switched over to Lacoste. It's an interesting move for Dimitrov who has been with Nike for 15 years but now he'll be donning what he described as a more elegant uniform.

As a French brand Lacoste has been tied to Roland Garros in the past and announcing the switch during the duration of the event seems kind of fitting. The partnership was accompanied by a video posted on the Lacoste Instagram page as well.

To me, Lacoste and elegance comes together. The legendary impact of the crocodile is inseparable from the history of our sport.  have always been sensitive to style and fashion in general. I like to associate on the court an aesthetic that suits me and in which I will feel ready to perform with style.

The Bulgarian hasn't played that strong of a year so far with the typical experience of both good and bad overall results. Even off the court things weren't going that well as he fell victim to a robbery earlier this year in Barcelona.

He did become part of tennis history alongside Novak Djokovic starring in the 1050th win of the Serbians' career recently. Despite the loss, his level recently has been trending in the right direction as he was able to advance to his first final in many years last week in Geneva. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to get it done losing to Nicolas Jarry in straight sets.

Here in Paris, he cruised past Timofey Skatov to earn his 17th win this year. Up next is Finnish number one Emil Ruusuvuori.
