ATP Race Update: Sinner Extends Lead Over Everyone Thanks To Miami Title Win

by Nurein Ahmed

Jannik Sinner won the second leg of this year's Sunshine Double and widened the gap between himself and the rest of the field in the ATP Race to Turin.

Sinner defeated Grigor Dimitrov in the Miami Open final and became the first Italian man to win multiple Masters titles. Having risen to world No. 2 in the official ATP rankings, the 22-year-old's stellar form shows no signs of abating.

He added 1000 points from his title win last Sunday, taking his tally to 3,900 points in the race. Sinner is now 1,350 points ahead of second-placed Daniil Medvedev, whom he comfortably beat in the Miami semifinal.

Alexander Zverev moved above Carlos Alcaraz into third place. Alex de Minaur retained his spot in the Top 5. Dimitrov is the biggest mover into the Top 10 of the ATP Race, rising seven spots to sit in sixth.

Andrey Rublev and Sebastian Baez occupy the final top eight spots, which determine the eight qualifying players for the ATP Finals. It is still early days to make any projections, but Novak Djokovic has plenty of work to do on clay.

The Serbian star skipped this year's Miami Open and parted ways with coach Goran Ivanisevic. He dipped to 12th place in this week's standings. Djokovic has topped the year-end race a record eight times, including in 2023.

Casper Ruud, Ugo Humbert, and Tommy Paul all rank above Djokovic. Former ATP Finals participants such as Holger Rune, Hubert Hurkacz, and Stefanos Tsitsipas are out of the Top 10.

Some of the players making steady progress include Nuno Borges, Jordan Thompson, Jack Draper, Fabian Marozsan, and Jakub Mensik. All of them are ranked in the Top 30 of this year's race.

The ATP Race to Turin is a barometer of ATP players' current form, measuring points earned in 2024. It will determine the year-end No. 1 and the eight players qualifying for the ATP Finals.
