2023 Japan Open Tokyo ATP Prize Money & Points Overview

The Japan Open in Tokyo is the longest-running tennis tournament in Asia, and it boasts an impressive list of players for the 2023 edition.

Running from October 16th to 22nd, 32 of the ATP stars will converge on the Ariake Colosseum, a masterpiece in tennis construction and elegance, comprising a whopping 48 tennis courts. And for the first time since the tournament's inception in 1972, the prize money purse will cross the $2 million mark.

At least 10 American players have won this tournament in the past, including Taylor Fritz who defeated Frances Tiafoe in last year's final. Both of them have committed to return to Japan's capital city. Tommy Paul, Ben Shelton, and Mackenzie McDonald will join the American cohort there.

Norway's Casper Ruud and Alexander Zverev will look to finish the season on a flourish, getting the required points in their bid for an ATP Finals spot in Turin. Former champions Andy Murray and Kei Nishikori are also in the field - the latter will try to recover from injury and pursue a third title in his home country.

The champion in Tokyo stands to gain valuable 500 points and prize money of $376,620, a significant share of $2,013,940 distributed at the event in total. The beaten finalist, while missing out on the trophy, will not walk away empty-handed, He will earn $202,640 and 300 points.

Semi-finalists will receive 180 points and will make six-digit sums amounting to $108,000, while quarter-finalists will earn 90 points and $55,170. Those players who lose in the second round will gain 45 points and $29,455 in prize money.
