The 2023 Stockholm Open promises to be a fabulous spectacle of indoor hard-court tennis and the tournament has committed its highest financial payday.
Running from October 16th to 22nd, this prestigious ATP 250 will bring together 28 singles players to Sweden's capital, Stockholm, preserving the heritage for one of the longest-running tennis tournaments on the ATP Tour.
Denmark's Holger Rune is the top seed and the reigning champion. No player has successfully defended the Stockholm Open crown since 2017, and Rune faces a massive challenge to reprise Juan Martin Del Potro's feat from six years ago.
Rune will likely need to take down second seed Tallon Griekspoor, one of the ATP Tour's biggest movers this season. British one-hander Daniel Evans won an ATP 500 event this year and is a player who thrives in an indoor setting and could be a danger.
The likes of Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Sebastian Baez have demonstrated their hard-court prowess and could surprise the scriptwriters. Experienced heads of Adrian Mannarino, Gael Monfils, and Stan Wawrinka cannot be counted out. Monfils is a former champion and has what it takes to triumph again, 12 years from his maiden success.
This year, the 28 players in the singles field will vie for a sizable chunk of €673,630, which marks a 4% increment from last year's prize money total. And the biggest beneficiary is the champion who will take home at least 15% of the prize purse, amounting to €102,460, and will have 250 points attached to his name.
The player who loses the championship match will be rewarded with a runner-up trophy, €59,760 in monetary compensation, and 150 ranking points. The two losing semifinalists will each pocket €35,135 and gain 90 points.
All four vanquished quarterfinalists will take home €20,360 and 45 potentially priceless points. Players who stand to win at least one main draw match at the Stockholm Open will garner €11,825 for their efforts and earn 20 points.
