The new WTA Rankings have been published, but the very top remained unchanged, as Iga Swiatek is still ahead of Aryna Sabalenka and the rest.
This past week wasn't the most exciting week in tennis, even though there were a couple of tournaments. Fans could enjoy two WTA events, one in Guadalajara and one in Monastir, but the biggest names didn't play in any of those events.
That's why there haven't been many changes up top; this week is generally when the players take a break after the US Open, which concluded only recently, and players want to recover ahead of what will be a packed Asian swing with two WTA 1000 tournaments.
As the week before, Iga Swiatek is on top with 10,885 points, which is a lot more than Aryna Sabalenka, who is second with 8,716. This result stems from the Polish player's strong finish to the year, during which she won an event during this Asian swing last year as well as the WTA Finals.
Their totals in the Race are much closer to this, but those rankings are calculated from start of the 2024 season, not based on the past 52 weeks. Jessica Pegula is still number 3 after her US Open heroics with 6,220 points, even though Elena Rybakina is not far behind with 5,871.
The Kazakhstani player hasn't played in a while, which is why she is already fourth in the rankings. Jasmine Paolini is still number 5, thanks to her Grand Slam heroics this year.
She has 5,398 points, which is more than Coco Gauff, with 4,983 as she's number six. The World No. 7 is Qinwen Zheng with 3,980 points, just slightly ahead of Emma Navarro with 3,705.
All of this is exactly how it was last week, but there have been changes in the Top 10. Barbora Krejcikova is out of the Top 10, slipping from number 9 to number 11 as she was overtaken by Maria Sakkari and Danielle Collins.
Sakkari is now ninth with 3,416 points, ahead of Collins, who has 3,178, and Krejcikova, who has 3,161. Some minor changes also happened from the 10th to the 20th position.
Diana Shnaider skipped over Beatriz Haddad Maia, becoming number 16 in the world. Outside of that, there haven't been too many changes. Still, some players who had notable performances at the events played this week made some improvements.
The Guadalajara Open was a WTA 500 event so there were plenty of points up for grabs. Magdalena Frech used that to improve her ranking by 11 spots, jumping to the World No. 32 position.
Maria Camila Osorio did the same by improving 19 spots to no. 61. The two biggest movers this week, though, were Olivia Gadecki and Sonay Kartal. The former made a significant jump of 64 spots to number 88 thanks to her heroics in Guadalajara.
The latter played in Monastir but also had a good run. Kartal improved her ranking 55 spots to become world number 96. Former Top 10 player Sofia Kenin went the other way as she dropped by 36 spots to number 90. All the moves can be tracked on our WTA Rankings page.
