World number 1, Iga Swiatek, won't be playing at the 2022 Madrid Open as she withdrew due to a right shoulder injury.

The 20-year-old is currently unstoppable when she's won already 23 matches in a row and doesn't seem to be stopping. Swiatek is by far the strongest player on the WTA Tour, and it's not a surprise that she's the world no. 1.

However, her illustrious winning streak won't be extended in the coming weeks. That's because the Polish player won't take part in the upcoming 2022 Madrid Open, the first of two back-to-back WTA 1000 tournaments held on clay courts in Europe.

Swiatek was supposed to be the first seed at the 2022 Madrid Open and was looking to add her fifth title in a row after previously triumphing at the Qatar Open, Indian Wells, Miami Open, and the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, where she bested Aryna Sabalenka in the final.

But right now, that won't be possible as the right shoulder injury halted the young Polish superstar. In 2022, she's won 32 out of 35 matches she has played so far, and it looks like this statistic will remain unchanged for some time.

To keep her winning streak going, the Pole needs to preserve her health, and despite the importance of the tournament, she has made a sensible decision to withdraw and heal before the second Grand Slam of the season, where she'll be aspiring to add her second major.

In the first round of the 2022 Madrid Open, Swiatek was supposed to face a qualifier, but now, she has allowed one of the lucky losers, that lost in the final round of the qualifying, to get into the main draw and try to add some valuable ranking points to their total.

As for Swiatek, she will most certainly turn her focus to the 2022 Italian Open in Rome, where she'll want to fine tune her form before going to Paris.
