The 2024 Charleston Open will run from April 1st to 7th and will herald the start of clay swing.
Being the only WTA claycourt tournament held on American soil, the entry list is stacked with home players. No fewer than nine Americans are assured of a main draw spot, with potentially a few more expected to enter through qualifying.
Jessica Pegula is the top seed and will bid to win her first WTA title on clay. The World No. 5 will have to contend with at least five Grand Slam champions on the field, including Victoria Azarenka, Sloane Stephens, Jelena Ostapenko, Sofia Kenin, and Elise Mertens (doubles winner).
The initial list also features fast-improving players like the Ukrainian duo of Dayana Yastremska and Marta Kostyuk, who are among the top eight seeds. Players like Emma Navarro, Anna Kalinskaya, and Danielle Collins will be among the dangerous floaters.
Details of prize money for the 2024 Charleston Open have been confirmed. A prize money pot of $922,573 is available, which is roughly 2.5% higher than last year's total but still short of the tournament record.
The increase from 12 months ago will be mirrored in all rounds of the main draw. The champion in Charleston stands to take home a $142,000 paycheck and 500 ranking points, an increase of $21,850 from last season, when Ons Jabeur won the title.
The runner-up will also earn a significant share of the prize money. She will pocket $87,655 and tally 325 points, which could elevate her status into the higher tiers of the WTA rankings.
Semifinalists are guaranteed to make $51,205 and receive 195 points. Quarterfinalists, meanwhile, will make half of that figure, $24,200, and receive 108 points.
Winning a main draw match equates to receiving $13,170 and 60 points. Be sure to check the complete breakdown of this year's prize money for the 2024 Charleston Open below.
