Mirra Andreeva recorded her first-ever Wimbledon main draw win after beating Xiyu Wang from China.

Mirra Andreeva is the name that everyone has been talking about for some time now. The Tennis Phenom of the WTA Tour, the Prodigy, the new Coco Gauff, and many other names have been given to this 16-year-old sensation from Russia.

After proving herself on the junior level, and winning some ITF tournaments, Andreeva competed at the Madrid Open, making it to the fourth round before being stopped by the eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka.

A few weeks later, the teenager played on the big stage again, this time going through the qualifying at Roland Garros, and subsequently reaching the third round where she was eliminated by fellow teenager Coco Gauff.

Losing only to two Top 10 players in the season isn't a bad resume, and that's the resume that the 16-year-old sensation entered the 2023 Wimbledon qualifying with. Storming through comfortably, she secured her first Wimbledon main draw appearance.

The draw was quite nice to the Russian as she took on Xiyu Wang from China, who is ranked 65th in the world. The match was one of the matches that were postponed multiple times, but eventually, it was played on Wednesday.

The teenager faced multiple break points in the first set, but it was the efficiency that mattered. While Andreeva used one of her four chances, the Chinese played couldn't use any of her four chances as the Russian won the first set 6-4.

But Wang was there to fight, and she did exactly that in the second set. Finding her range against the 16-year-old, Wang was able to use her chances and after winning the second set 6-3, she took the match into a decider.

After both players held onto their serve and no break points were on the horizon, it seemed that the third set will have to be decided in a tie-break. However, that was only until the twelfth game of the deciding set.

Thanks to a few great returns, Andreeva had the only break points of the set, which was also the match point and the teenager used her chance to win the match 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 and record her first-ever win in the Wimbledon main draw.

Up next, she will face another Grand Slam champion after losing to Sabalenka earlier this year. The 16-year-old will take on the tenth-seeded Barbroa Krejcikova from the Czech Republic, who has the Roland Garros triumph behind her belt.
