Novak Djokovic's press conference after winning the 2025 Geneva Open contained a heartwarming moment involving his son Stefan.
Djokovic secured an incredible 100th ATP title by defeating Hubert Hurkacz in a thrilling final. The 38-year-old trailed by a break in the deciding set, and it seemed like a long way back since Hurkacz is one of the best servers in the world.
Last year's Olympic gold medalist showed his trademark resilience to prevail 5-7, 7-6, 7-6 and join a small list of players with 100 professional singles titles. He is three behind Roger Federer's total of 103.
Djokovic's family attended the match and tried to play their part in cheering him to victory. However, the tennis legend's son got an opportunity to grill his father like the other reporters at his post-match press conference.
In Serbian, Stefan asked him how he managed to cope with the sun during the match. After laughing, Djokovic gave a humorous response that included mentioning how Stefan had taken all of his hats.
"Great question, Stefan. It was harder without a hat because you stole all my hats and they're all in your closet. So, it's much harder to bear the sun without a hat."
The feel-good moment can be viewed in the video below. It clearly brought Djokovic genuine joy, and was much different from the usual interactions he gets in press conferences and after tournaments.
Djokovic has spoken in the past about how much his family means to him and finds it challenging to be away from them during the season. Wanting to be with loved ones is one of the reasons the 24-time Grand Slam champion has played much fewer events in recent years.
Although the four Grand Slams remain Djokovic's biggest priority, the former ATP world No. 2 has played in more tournaments this season compared to the last few years, although results were underwhelming by his high standards until he won the title in Geneva.
Djokovic accepted a wild card into the Geneva Open after failing to win a match at the Monte-Carlo Masters or the Madrid Open. He skipped the Italian Open, but decided he could not enter Roland Garros with no wins on clay, leading to him competing in Geneva.
Despite initially planning to work together until at least the end of the French Open, Djokovic split with his coach, Andy Murray, before the Geneva Open. They started working together before the 2025 Australian Open after the Briton's appointment towards the end of last year.
Although there is no animosity between Djokovic and Murray, they mutually decided that nothing more could be gotten out of their partnership, and each man felt it was best to move on to avoid prolonging the situation.
Based on Djokovic's significantly improved performances in Geneva, the move seems wise. It might give him the confidence he needs to perform well at the French Open and have another deep run.
Many feel the men's singles draw at Roland Garros was favorable to Djokovic. It could allow the Serbian to play himself into form and peak later in the tournament, something he has done many times.
