Iga Swiatek didn't like one of the questions coming her way during the press conference ahead of the 2025
Roland Garros.
Swiatek managed to win the title at Roland Garros four times in the last five years. Thanks to her dominance, she has even been compared to Rafael Nadal, but this year, the Pole isn't such an overwhelming favorite in Paris.
She has year to win a title since last year's French Open, and her losses in Madrid and Rome showed that she isn't the same player that she was a year ago. Still, coming to Roland Garros, Swiatek certainly feels she could succeed.
She wouldn't be the only one, as one of the journalists suggested that she might feel an emotional lift just by coming to the French capital. During her pre-tournament press conference, the
WTA World No. 5 player was asked whether she got an "emotional lift" after arriving at Roland Garros.
"Did you get a lift just coming here, I mean just showing up, emotional lift, coming here, and get get a good feeling."
Swiatek wasn't impressed by that question. In fact, the Polish player felt like she didn't need any "emotional lift," even though it's been 12 months since she last lifted a title. On top of that, she asked the journalist whether they got an "emotional lift."
"Yeah, but you know, it's not... What do you mean, like? I feel good overall. Maybe I played badly in some matches, but it's not like I need so much of an emotional lift. For sure, it's nice to come here. Did you get an emotional lift?"
The journalist tried to be very respectful towards the player, emphasizing that Swiatek has won the tournament four times before: "I haven't won four times here, so just another tournament for me."
Swiatek only shortly responded to that, saying: "I'm sorry you're not lifted." Later during her press conference, the four-time Roland Garros champion then spoke about her results, aware that she could play better.
"Well for sure after Rome, I had a lot of time to think about how I played and what my attitude was. So, for sure I focused on changing some stuff and also having more intensity because I feel like I’m not starting the matches well."
"And then obviously I got tight a little bit when I played with Danielle, but yeah, these are things that any athlete needs to work on, I would say. Sometimes it’s easier, sometimes it’s harder, but I got to the point where I just knew I needed to change something in my attitude and maybe get a little bit more energetic before the matches."
