The draw for the 2025 Roland Garros has been unveiled, and once again, tennis fans can look forward to two weeks of exciting clay-court action.
In the past few years, the women's singles draw at the French Open has been dominated by one woman. Iga Swiatek lifted the trophy in Paris in 2020, 2022, 2023, and 2024, winning four of the last five editions.
But this year, the Polish player isn't the overwhelming favorite to win the title. In fact, she isn't even among the top four seeded players, as her ranking plummeted after she failed to defend her titles in Madrid and Rome.
In the Roland Garros draw, which will be played from May 25th until June 7th, when the women's singles final will be played, Swiatek is the fifth seed. She landed in the top half of the draw, and she will take on Rebecca Sramkova in the first round of the tournament.
Swiatek being in the top half means that she could take on her rival, Aryna Sabalenka, already in the semi-finals of the tournament. The Belarusian will start her tournament against Kamilla Rakhimova.
The second seed in the French Open draw is Coco Gauff, who has previously reached the final in Paris. The American player will take on Olivia Gadecki in the first round of the tournament.
Gauff could meet one of the former Roland Garros champions, Barbora Krejcikova, already in the fourth round. The Czech player will start against Tatjana Maria in the first round.
One of the first-round blockbusters will see the 10th-seeded Paula Badosa take on four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka. Such a match-up is a brutal draw for both of these players.
Another brutal first-round draw was handed to the 12th-seeded Elena Rybakina, who is one of the Grand Slam winners in the draw. The Kazakhstani player will have to take on Belinda Bencic, who has been one of the best players in 2025.
Mirra Andreeva will be one of the dark horses in the Roland Garros draw. The teenager will start against Cristina Bucsa. Jessica Pegula could add her name to the list of dark horses as well, and she will play against Anca Todoni in her first match in Paris this year.
Qinwen Zheng recently beat Sabalenka, and she will have a chance to do that also in the quarter-finals of the French Open. The Chinese player landed in the World No. 1's quarter, and she will start against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the first round.
