The draw for the 2025 Qatar Open has been revealed. The tournament in Doha is the first WTA 1000 event of the year.
The 2025 Qatar Open will run from February 9th until 16th, and all of the best tennis players will meet for the second time this year. The last time all of the highest-ranked players met at one event was at the Australian Open earlier this year.
Madison Keys won the Australian Open, but unfortunately, the only Grand Slam champion this year won't compete in Doha. Keys was forced to withdraw from the Qatar Open.
Her final opponent, Aryna Sabalenka, will be the top seed in Doha. Although being among the top eight seeded players guarantees the Belarusian a first-round bye, her second-round opponent could be a fellow Grand Slam champion.
Emma Raducanu, who received a wild card for the Qatar Open, will play against Ekaterina Alexandrova in the first round of the tournament. The winner will then play against the top-seeded Sabalenka in the second round.
On the opposite side of the draw is the second-seeded Iga Swiatek. She, too, received a very challenging draw. The Polish player will start in the second round against either Maria Sakkari or one of the qualifiers.
All the eyes will be also on Coco Gauff. The 20-year-old American has made significant progress in recent months, and she will be among the favorites in Doha.
She has a first-round bye, and in the second round, the winner of the match between Marta Kostyuk and Zeynep Sonmez will await the American player.
Elena Rybakina is the fifth seed in Doha. The Kazakhstani player certainly wants to add her name to the champions' column again, and the conditions in Qatar could suit her. She will play against the player who wins the first-round match between Dayana Yastremska and Peyton Stearns.
There are also many exciting first-round matchups that will take place in Doha. For example, Sofia Kenin will play against fellow American Ashlyn Krueger in an all-American matchup.
Ons Jabeur will take on McCartney Kessler, and the winner of this matchup will play against the seventh-seeded Qinwen Zheng in the second round of the tournament.
Amanda Anisimova and Victoria Azarenka will also take care of an interesting first-round match. The winner will play against the ninth-seeded Paula Badosa or Katerina Siniakova in the second round.
