The 2025 Hong Kong Open will kick off the new season, and the draw for the ATP 250 event has been released.
The Hong Kong Open has a really challenging place on the calendar, making it difficult to attract many top players. With the first Grand Slam of the season starting one week after the conclusion of this tournament, players might not want to travel from Hong Kong to Melbourne so close to a major.
On top of that, there are warm-up tournaments in Australia ahead of the Australian Open, which the likes of Novak Djokovic, Nick Kyrgios, and Holger Rune plan to attend.
Still, the draw for the 2025 Hong Kong Open is very strong. Defending champion Andrey Rublev headlines the draw. In 2024, he bested Emil Ruusuvuori in the final, but the Finnish player won't compete in Hong Kong this year.
Rublev, on the other hand, will try to defend his title, and a first-round bye will help him with that. Like all top four seeded players, the Russian won't have to play the opening round, starting in the second round of the tournament.
But already his first opponent will be challenging, as he will take on the winner of the match between Roman Safiullin and Fabian Marozsan. On top of that, it won't get any easier for them after that.
Juncheng Shang, who is a 19-year-old talented player from China, will play against home player Coleman Wong in the first round, with the winner taking on either the seventh-seeded Pedro Martinez or a qualifier in the second round. The winner of this part will play against the winner of Rublev's part in the quarter-finals.
On the opposite side of the draw is the second-seeded Lorenzo Musetti, who will start the new season with a new haircut. The Italian player will await either Roberto Carballes Baena or a qualifier in the second round.
Karen Khachanov might be the third seed in Hong Kong, but a brutal second-round match will await him. The Russian player will take on the winner of the first-round blockbuster between Denis Shapovalov and Kei Nishikori.
In the quarter-finals, the winner of this part will meet the bets from Cameron Norrie, Learner Tien, Lorenzo Sonego, and the sixth-seeded Brandon Nakashima.
Arthur Fils is the fourth seed in Hong Kong. He will play against the winner of the match between Zizou Bergs and a qualifier in the second round of the tournament.
