The 2025 Brisbane International is the first ATP 250 tournament on the calendar, and the draw for the event has been released.

Running alongside the Hong Kong Open, there are two ATP 250 tournaments held in the opening week of the new season. The Brisbane International starts on December 29th, 2024, and ends on January 5th, 2025.

Last year, Grigor Dimitrov bested Holger Rune in the final of the competition after the competition returned to Brisbane after five years. Both of them will compete at the ATP 250 tournament also in 2025.

Defending champion Dimitrov is the second seed and he will start against one of the qualifiers, but already in the second round, the Bulgarian player might face a proper test. His opponent will be either former Top 10 player David Goffin or home wild card Aleksanda.r Vukic

Rune, on the other hand, is the third seed, and his draw is much more challenging. The Danish player will take on one of the best non-seeded players, as his opponent will be extremely talented, Jiri Lehecka. Should he win this match, he will take on either Arthur Rinderknech or a qualifier.

Although these two players are former finalists, the eyes of the crowd in Brisbane will be on someone else. Novak Djokovic will compete at the tournament, and he will be obviously the first seed at the event that he played in 2009.

Back then, Djokovic lost already in the first round to Ernests Gulbis, so he will want to record his maiden win in Brisbane in 2025. Although the Serbian player is one of the crowd favorites, he won't have it easy in his first round, as he will play against a home player.

Rinky Hijikata, who received a wild card, will be the 24-time Grand Slam champion's first-round opponent. Should Djokovic succeed, he might take on Gael Monfils, who never beat him in 19 meetings, in the second round.

But there's another extremely interesting name in the draw. Nick Kyrgios will return to the tennis courts, and in the first round, he will take on Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, who is an incredibly good server.

The winner of this match will play against the winner of the match between the fourth-seeded Frances Tiafoe and home wild card Adam Walton in the second round of the event.

Sebastian Korda will also compete at the tournament as the fifth seed. The American player will start his new season with a match against Arthur Cazaux.

Another player who used their protected ranking, like Kyrgios, to enter the draw is Reilly Opelka. The American player will play against a qualifier in the first round, and if he wins, his second-round opponent will be either the seventh-seeded Alexei Popyrin or Matteo Arnaldi.
